It was early in 2014, after a lifetime interest in photography, when I set out to frame some of my own pictures and subsequently offered to do similar for my family and friends.
In December 2014, a local artist, David Gilhooley, set out to break the world record for the number of A4 prortraits sketched within 12 hours. Surely some of the people sitting for David might appreciate the opportunity to display and protect their portrait in a handmade picture frame.
There were, indeed, 14 people who took up that option and the initiative raised £130 for Prostate Cancer UK and the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation. With such success, the idea of Framing4Charity was further developed.
Our venture is very small and set up on a "not-for-profit" basis to raise money for charitable causes through the framing of pictures as a hobby.
A basic principle is that all labour is voluntary and no wages, salaries or dividends are paid out of income or profit.
